American Idol!!

Thought I should write about this one before I forget everything!

Jake signed us up on some website last year to get free American Idol tickets...we've been fans of the show for quite sometime now! So a couple weeks ago, he got an e-mail inviting us to come to the dress rehearsal and then jump in the standby line to get into the live taping of the show. They gave us 4 tickets. Jake invited his good buddy Josh and I invited my friend Jessica, who shares the same love for the show! We decided to go to the Wednesday night showing, in which the guy contestants sing. We were going to the last show on the small stage, before they get down to the top 12.

So we drove down to CBS studios, right next to the grove, on Wednesday morning. We were the first people there....probably because we got there at 10:30, which was 3 hours before we were supposed to get there! Just wanted to make sure we got in! So we decided to walk down to a cafe and grab some food. Good thing we did, cause we didn't get to eat again until 8:00pm that night! Anyways, we got back in line at 11:30 and waited another two hours. Doing random things to stay occupied, one of which was gum draw competitions...much harder than it looks! :) We were so excited to be there!
Ready to sing with the contestants! ;)

We were finally taken back to where the studio was and checked in. This is where they confiscated our cell phones, cameras, etc. Which was a bummer because I would have loved to taken pictures inside! We waited outside on benches for another hour. Then were taken inside, where the "audience coordinators" placed us where they wanted us to sit. Luckily they kept me and my hubbs together! We were on the end of the second row to the left of the stage. Everything was so much smaller than it looks like on TV! I couldn't believe it! They must use some Wide angle lens' to make that stage look as big and nice as it does on the tube! So the audience guy comes over before the taping of the rehearsal starts and tells our section that we will be seen the most by the camera, so its very important that we smile and clap and get really into each song. He said if one person stands up, then everybody else stand up to, because they use the rehearsal tapes for the recaps of each song on the live show.

So they started the rehearsal and fake judges came out and commented like the real judges would. Ryan Seacrest was wearing jeans and messing around with everyone. There was this main stage lady who pretty much ran the show, telling everyone what to do and where to be. The guys all did a really good job. They would talk and wave to the maybe 70 people that were in the audience. I was glad we went to the smaller one because you felt so much closer to everyone. After the rehearsal was done, they released everyone to go and get in the standby line for the live show. But just as Jake was getting up to run for the door, the coordinator stopped him and said to wait for everyone else to leave. He then asked our little section of maybe 18 people if we would like to stay for the live show. Of course we said Yes! So he took us back to where the family of the contestants were to wait for the live show. We met a bunch of people's moms and dads! It was so much fun! Jake met the bassist Ricky Minor in the bathroom!
They then brought us back in for the live show. Put me and Jake in the same spot and moved Jess and Josh over a section and to the front. We waited some more and a guy came out on the stage to pump up the crowd with some music! He called Jake up onto the stage to do some funny dance moves! I couldn't believe it! This guy continued to stay throughout the show and come out on commercial breaks. He kept asking Jake questions and picking on him. So towards the end of the show, he gave Jake a new phone for being a good sport! If only it were a verizon phone! Oh well, it was still exciting!
The real judges came out, but got up and walked back stage on almost every commercial break, which was odd to me but oh well! My goal during the show was to get Simon to wave at me because I was sitting directly across from him. Towards the end of the show, Jake and I started waving at him and he smiled and waved back!! I was like a little kid at Disneyland! It was all so much fun! To see how it all worked and hear the contestants live. They sound so much better live, in my opinion. Maybe because the music is louder. I don't know, all I know is we had a blast! During the show, I was sitting on the end of the row in my pink shirt, and Aaron Kelly (the little guy) was standing right next to me before he went on stage and I said "Good Luck" and He said "Thank you!" You can see us pretty good on this clip of Todrick singing "Somebody to Love." I was cracking up because he was singing directly at my friend Jessica! There we are!

As we were leaving the show, we were waving at Lee Dewyze and he threw his pick at us! Its funny because none of them are famous artists yet, but some of them could be!
We left and got some much needed dinner! What a great night full of fun memories!
