B-Day Surprise!
So for Jake's 24th Birthday present this year I decided, 2 weeks prior, that I wanted to surprise him by redecorating his music room/ study. It was a huge task to take on and nearly impossible to do without him knowing, but by the grace of God and help from friends and family, it was accomplished! As you can see down below, I didn't have much to work with from the get go!

It was pretty much always a mess with not much in it!

That lamp was the only lighting in the room. Luckily it was pre-wired for a fan/light, we just hadn't got one for it yet! You may also notice a kitty in every picture! They keep me company! :)

This was his lovely desk and blue chair! Lovely I know! :)

So you get the picture, it was not so good! I had A LOT of work cut out for myself!
I started working on it Monday 3/1/10. I started out by spray painting the blinds in the room brown. As you'll notice above, we started this process when we were spraying the ones in the kitchen, but never finished it! All day long and 4 cans of spray paint later they were done. I literally threw them back up, simi wet, when Jake was driving home from work! He asked why it smelt like spray paint and luckily I had also sprayed a trash can that I said I was going to use in my office! My fingers and arm were so sore! I also told him that some of his presents were arriving and I needed to store them in that room until his birthday, so he was not allowed to go in! I put up this lovely sign on the door!

Tuesday my friend Nicole drove with me to go look at some bookcases I found on Craig's List. It was quite a journey, having to go get cash out at a ghetto gas station, gps telling me to turn into the wrong house. We got out and knocked on the door for several minutes at this creepy house which ended up being the wrong one! Finally found the right house and got a great deal, 2 bookcases for $20! Brought them home washed them out and Nicole took them to her house to store for me, just before Jake got home! AS you can imagine this was horribly hard for me to keep a secret from him!
Wednesday I had his sister, Jamie, call him to see if she could have the free desk that our neighbor was getting rid of, that we had stored in the garage until we had time to fix it up! I needed to take it over to Nicole's to paint it, so I told him we were giving it to his sister because she needed it more than we did! :) After I took the desk over to Nicole's we ran over to Lowe's to grab a few supplies. She put stripped on the bookcase to get the lacquer off, while I started spray painting the desk black. We then proceeded to sand the bookcase down!

She was such a huge help even in the midst of her crazy hard nursing program!
She went back to school and we moved the desk to the lawn because the spray paint was getting everywhere! I ran to Lowe's to get more paint and finished the desk after 5 cans of spray paint!

Her brother helped me bring it back into the garage. I put a coat of primer on the bookcase and headed home just before Jake got home from work!
Thursday I put a few coats of black paint on the bookcase and lacquer over the desk.
Friday, my mom helped me load up the desk and take it home. The Torsney's were so gracious to let me paint and store furniture in their garage for several days! Jake's grandparents came over and installed the new ceiling fan/light that his parents bought as one of his presents! His grandpa also hung the other guitar hanger and patched up the holes in the walls. Then my friends Taylor and Victoria and my Momma came over to help me start painting the room. I forgot to take pictures with them! We got the first coat done on Friday. All my nights and weekends were shot because Jake was off work! I started to worry over the weekend that it wasn't all going to come together!
Monday Victoria came back over and helped me paint.

She painted "Crazy for You" on the wall, because it is a song Jake and I like by Adele, also because I would have to be crazy for him in order to try to do all this work! She wrote it quick before she went to work.

Then Emily came over and helped me with the rest of the bulk painting before Jake came home for lunch!

It was quite a pain to have to put all the paint stuff back the way it was every time he came home, and have to get it all back out after he left!
Tuesday, I went and grabbed the finished bookcase. Then came home and finished edging all the paint in the room. That night I stayed up until 1am edging each letter of "Crazy for you"...that was a very tedious project!
Wednesday was shot because we were at American Idol all day, which I was totally fine with! :)
Thursday I ran out and bought all the decorations for the room! I had also asked his best friend Josh, who is an artist, if he could make something for me to put up on the wall above his desk. I met him at the printing place that morning and got his lovely artwork! I had originally planned to show it to Jake his new room on Friday 3/12, which was a week before his actual birthday 3/19, because we were going to have my friend Tiffany's 21st Birthday party at our house on Saturday 3/13 and I didn't want to have to worry about anyone going in the room. However, I couldn't wait any longer and decided to get it all together and show him on Thursday 3/11! I literally bought everything for the room, then came home and my Mom and Grandma Bicker, helped me put it all together in about 2 hours! This included drilling holes and hanging the curtain rod. Crazy! I'm used to having my husband to help me do all these things! Anyways, we got it all together just in time and it turned out better than I had expected, especially for being done within such a tight budget and small amount of time! Here's the finished product!

The sign changed to a bow!

Brown wall!

Crazy for you!

Finished bookcase!

Here's the video of him seeing it for the first time!!! I was so nervous!

Lots of hugs!

He's all ready to play in his music room!

And study!

And play some more!
Here's his thoughts after taking it all in!

I was sooo relieved to be finished with it! And able to tell him everything!!

Mission accomplished!
I am so glad to be done! He seriously tells me everyday how much he loves having his own, kitty free zone, to study and take care of bills and play music! I am so glad and thankful to all who helped! I couldn't have done it without you! That's all for now, until I start my next project...my office!
